FAQ

Feng Shui

01Why do different Feng Shui schools give different advice?
Different schools examine different evidence and use different calculation methods. Form-based approaches emphasize surroundings, roads, building form and internal circulation; compass-based systems may add orientation, construction date, compass readings and time cycles. Apparently conflicting advice may address different layers. A professional report should state its method, required data, and which conclusions are general spatial principles or specific to one system.
02Can an apartment or rented home be assessed with Feng Shui?
Yes. Even when the building orientation and shared corridors cannot be changed, the entrance, daylight, furniture placement, sleeping and work areas, active and quiet zones, storage and circulation can still be assessed. In rented homes, prioritize reversible, low-cost changes allowed by the lease. Do not alter structural walls, fire-safety equipment or shared property.
03Does an online Feng Shui consultation require a compass reading?
It depends on the method. A floor plan, photographs and north direction may be sufficient for basic form, circulation and functional analysis. Directional systems such as Eight Mansions or Flying Stars usually require a more accurate facing direction and the construction or major-renovation date. When information is incomplete, the report should narrow its conclusions rather than invent missing data.
04Is a mirror facing the front door always bad?
No single rule applies in every case, and schools interpret mirrors differently. First consider whether the mirror directly faces the door, causes glare or surprise, reflects clutter, or makes a narrow entrance feel uncomfortable. If it cannot be moved, its angle or reflected view may be changed. A mirror does not automatically create definite good or bad fortune.
05What is the “command position” for a bed or desk?
It usually means being able to see the entrance while resting or working, without sitting or lying directly in line with the door, and with relatively stable support behind you. It can support visibility, a sense of security and concentration. Room size, windows, ventilation, outlets, fire safety and ergonomics take priority; sleep, airflow and safety should not be sacrificed for a positional rule.
06Are a home’s facing direction and its front-door direction the same?
Not necessarily. Traditional frameworks in the Huangdi Zhaijing and Yangzhai Shishu consider the building, the point where qi enters, access routes and surrounding landform. A door bearing should not automatically be treated as the whole home’s facing direction; apartments may require separate consideration of the building, unit and private entrance.
07Is a kitchen or bathroom in a particular direction always bad?
No. The Yangzhai Shishu gives importance to relationships among the door, principal room and stove, but one direction cannot determine the whole layout. A modern bathroom has no exact historical equivalent, and drainage, waterproofing, ventilation, fire safety and hygiene take priority.
08Is Feng Shui consultation better before renovation or after moving in?
Either stage can be useful. Traditional principles of construction, access and room arrangement can inform planning before renovation; after occupation, actual daylight, sleep, noise and circulation can be assessed. Structural, electrical, plumbing and fire-safety work must follow modern building standards.

BaZi

09Can BaZi be analyzed without an exact birth time?
The more stable parts of the year, month and day pillars can still be examined, but the hour pillar must be identified as unknown. This limits some discussion of later life, children, detailed structures and timing. If only an approximate period is known, possible hour pillars can be compared side by side. A birth time should never be selected merely to produce a preferred result.
10Why are birthplace and time zone needed?
Birthplace helps establish the legal time zone, daylight-saving rules and longitude conditions in effect at the time. Near an hour boundary, different time-correction methods may change the hour pillar. A professional chart should preserve the original record and state whether standard clock time or true solar time was used.
11Does BaZi use the lunar calendar or solar terms?
BaZi charts generally use the sexagenary cycle and solar-term system; they do not simply insert a lunar-calendar date into the Four Pillars. Boundaries for the year and month pillars may differ from 1 January or Lunar New Year. Provide the recorded birth date, time and place so one consistent charting method can convert them and be documented in the report.
12What is the Day Master?
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar and serves as the central reference for comparing other stems and branches. The Ten Gods and many Five Element relationships are defined in relation to it. It is only the starting point of a chart: labels such as “Jia Wood” or “Ding Fire” cannot by themselves determine a complete personality, career or life outcome.
13Must a missing Five Element in a BaZi chart be added?
Not necessarily. An element being scarce or absent on the surface does not mean the chart needs it. Season, Day Master strength, hidden stems, combinations, circulation and the chosen analytical framework also matter. Equating “missing Water” directly with wearing black, buying accessories or changing careers is an oversimplification.
14Do Luck Pillars and annual influences predict the future?
They are not deterministic prophecy. They are used to examine how different time layers interact with the natal chart and may show when particular themes, resources or pressures deserve attention. They cannot guarantee a specific event. Real choices, circumstances and the actions of other people continue to affect outcomes.
15What information is needed for a BaZi compatibility reading?
A fuller comparison normally requires both people’s birth dates, times and places, together with how accurate each time is. Appropriate permission should be obtained before using another person’s data. Compatibility analysis may support discussion of communication, pace and responsibility, but cannot prove loyalty or destiny and cannot replace real-world assessments of safety and values.
16Why can BaZi charting software produce different results?
The Yuanhai Ziping and Sanming Tonghui frameworks divide year, month, day and hour through solar terms and the stem-branch system. Modern software must also handle legal time zones, daylight saving, longitude correction, day changes at Zi hour and solar-term databases. Preserve the original birth record and document the selected rules rather than choosing whichever chart feels preferable.

Chinese Face Reading

17What kind of photographs are needed for face reading?
Use clear, front-facing photographs in natural light, with the camera roughly level with the face. Avoid beauty filters and do not obscure the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth or facial outline. Left and right profiles may be added when useful. A photograph captures only a limited state at one moment and cannot replace in-person observation or a medical examination.
18Can I wear glasses or makeup in the photographs?
Ideally, also provide one front-facing image without glasses and with natural makeup, avoiding lens glare, heavy contouring or filters that change visible structure. If removing glasses is impractical for visual or personal reasons, explain that in advance. Every photograph request should respect the individual’s choice.
19Can face reading determine health or personality?
No. On this website, face reading is presented as traditional cultural observation and personal reflection, not as medical, psychological or personality diagnosis. Facial features must not be used to infer disease, lifespan, intelligence, morality or criminal tendency. Those concerns belong with appropriately qualified professionals.
20Why are front and profile photographs sometimes needed?
Mayi Shenxiang and Shenxiang Quanbian examine the features, Three Regions, bone and flesh, and overall form and spirit. A front view shows distribution and proportion; profiles add the forehead, nose, cheekbones, mouth, chin and contour. Extra photographs improve the evidence but do not make the method deterministic.
21How should left-right facial asymmetry be understood?
The traditional Mayi Shenxiang framework values balance and correspondence among facial areas, so a marked deviation, injury or imbalance can affect interpretation. Camera distortion, angle, expression and light can also create false asymmetry; these must be excluded before considering the face as a whole.
22How is traditional “complexion” different from natural skin colour?
In Mayi Shenxiang and Shenxiang Quanbian, complexion concerns qualities such as brightness, moisture, clarity and change over time; it is not a ranking of natural skin colours. Ethnicity cannot be graded as fortunate or unfortunate, and lighting, white balance and makeup alter photographs. Complexion reading is not medical diagnosis.
23Do age, expression and lighting affect face reading?
Yes. Traditional theory distinguishes relatively stable form and bone from spirit and complexion that change over time. Age affects soft tissue, expression changes the eyes and mouth, and light changes visible contours. Photograph conditions must be recorded and temporary states separated from stable structure.
24Do cosmetic procedures, orthodontics or injuries affect face reading?
Yes, potentially substantially. Mayi Shenxiang pays attention to features, bone and flesh, marks, damage, the Twelve Palaces and overall coordination. Acquired changes that alter contour, proportion, surface condition or expression change the visible basis of a current reading. Classical texts do not discuss modern cosmetic procedures, so no operation should be assigned a supposedly fixed classical outcome.

Combined Analysis

25Can Feng Shui, BaZi and face reading be combined?
They can be combined when the client clearly agrees and supplies the relevant information, but the three methods address different subjects. Feng Shui examines space, BaZi uses birth-time structures, and face reading is a traditional form of visual observation. Combining them does not make their conclusions prove one another; a report should present each basis separately and then identify possible overlaps and uncertainties.
26Which service should a first-time client choose?
Choose according to the question: traditional dwelling analysis for space, Ziping BaZi for birth-time structures, and face reading for traditional observation of visible form and spirit. Using more methods does not automatically make a conclusion more accurate.
27What if the three methods point in different directions?
Feng Shui, BaZi and face reading examine different subjects with different evidence. Disagreement does not prove that one must be wrong. A report should identify each classical framework, its inputs and reasoning instead of forcing contradictory observations into one answer.
28What information is required for a combined analysis?
Feng Shui uses spatial information, BaZi uses birth records, and face reading uses photographs supplied with the person’s consent. Data should remain purpose-specific and limited to what the consultation needs. Obtain appropriate permission before using another person’s records or images.
29Should a combined analysis be completed at once or in stages?
A focused question can be divided into sections in one report. Birth-time correction, several properties or many photographs are better handled in stages so the evidence can be checked and the traditional systems remain distinct.
30How should conclusions in a combined report be ordered?
Begin with verifiable information, then explain each traditional framework, and finally offer optional practical suggestions. Symbolic interpretation must not be presented as objective fact or allowed to override safety, law, health or real circumstances.
31Can a combined analysis be used for a major life decision?
Traditional methods should not be the sole basis for a major decision. The texts arose in historical settings different from today; medical, legal, financial, relationship, career and building-safety decisions still require current facts and qualified advice.
32What makes a combined analysis professional?
A responsible report states its classical sources, methods, data, reasoning levels, limitations and uncertainty. Randomly joining quotations, guaranteeing outcomes, creating fear or pressuring clients to buy remedies is not rigorous cultural interpretation.
